Competition rules

1. 1. A maximum of three entries per person. Each entry will comprise 1 – 3 photographs. Photographs may be in colour or black & white and must be accompanied with a written story of up to 50 words. The word limit of 50 words must not be exceeded. Be succinct in your writing.

2. All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The entrants must be the sole owner of copyright in all photographs and written text entered and must have obtained permission of any people featured in the entries. Further, entrants must not have breached any laws when taking their photographs.

3. Prior to submission, entrants must not have offered any of their entries for sale, been paid for any publication of any of their entries or won or been a runner up in any other photographic competition with any of their entries.

4. Entrants will retain copyright in the photographs that they submit to I Am. But by entering the competition all entrants grant to I Am the right to publish and exhibit their photographs and written story on I Am’s website, Facebook page, Twitter account and similar social media of all sponsors. Entrants whose photographs are one of the finalists or selected to appear on the website grant to I Am the further rights to publish and exhibit their photographs in print media, on their respective websites or in any other media. No fees will be payable for any of the above uses. While we make every effort to credit photographers, including in printed reproductions of their work, we cannot guarantee that every use of the photographs will include photographers’ names.

5. The winners will be notified by email.

6. The top ten winners will be featured on I Am’s Facebook page. The top five on the http://iam.lk website

7. The overall winner will receive vouchers from Photo Technica to the value of SLR 20,000.

8. Photographs must be submitted in digital form as JPEGs (or scanned versions) and can be shot on any camera or mobile phone. All entries must be emailed and the story as a PDF file or word document to [email protected]. If the accompanying text is handwritten in Sinhala or Tamil, a scanned copy will be acceptable, if legible.

9. The competition begins on 21 January 2013 and the closing date for submissions is 31 May 2013. So get shooting! Submissions will be judged by the I Am team, the staff at Photo Technica and the American Center, Colombo who is supporting the overall project. The judges’ decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. The judges will select top five finalists who will be put forward to a vote on the I Am Facebook page. The photo-story with the most “likes” at the end of July 2013 will be deemed the winner.

10. By entering, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these rules and I Am reserves the right to exclude any entry from the competition at any time and in its absolute discretion if I Am has reason to believe that an entrant has breached these rules.

11. I Am makes it clear that this competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed or associated with Facebook.

12. I Am reserves the right to cancel this competition or alter any of the rules at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside of its control.

13. If the winner is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made, I Am reserves the right to either offer the prize to a runner up or to re-offer the prize in any future competition.

14. This competition is administered by the I Am team. Entry into this competition is not open to current or former members of the I Am team or current employees of the sponsors.

15. While the competition is open to all Facebook and Twitter followers of I Am irrespective of their country of residence, the overall prize of Rs 20,000 vouchers can only be redeemed in Sri Lanka. Entrants based outside of Sri Lanka who are selected as winners will still be entitled to be published on the Facebook page and I Am website.
